  • More females are confident about talking to a health care provider than males (62% compared to 43%), but more males are confident speaking to a sexual partner than females (33% compared to 15%).
  • More females are also confident in speaking to friends than males (15% compared to 6%)
  • Respondents aged 25 to 44 are most confident speaking to friends about contraception (68%), as well as to a sexual partner (58%)
  • A high proportion of respondents who are most confident speaking to a health care provider are 45 or over (53%)

40% of 18 to 24s are most confident speaking to their family or carers about contraception compared to 20% of 25 to 34 year olds, 30% of 35 to 44 year olds, and 10% of 65 year olds or over.
15% of 18 to 24 year olds are most confident speaking to their friends about contraception compared to 36% of 25 to 34 year olds, 32% of 35 to 44 year olds, 13% of 45 to 54 year olds, 2% of 55 to 64 year olds and 2% of over 65s.
