Employee retention

• In 2024, Portsmouth City Council welcomed 749 new employees, while 494 staff members left the organisation
• This marks a rise of more than 50% in new starters compared to the previous year, driven primarily by above-average intakes in April and September
• September also recorded the highest number of leavers
• April 2024 saw a significant surge in new starters, with the majority joining Housing, Neighbourhood and Building Services which was due to waste management services being brought in-house
• Other directorates also experienced higher-than-usual starter numbers, contributing to the overall increase
