An online survey was opened on Tuesday 2 February 2021 and closed on Friday 19 March 2021. The aim of this consultation was to help develop and shape future special educational needs and disability (SEND) services. We want to make sure that these services work best for children and young people with SEND, and for their parents and carers.

The survey was promoted through various marketing and communications to get a maximum of engagement and response rates:

  • Social media
  • Portsmouth City Council website
  • Portsmouth Local Offer website
  • Email distribution lists
  • Newsletters
  • Through schools and health services

In total, 681 people answered the survey on behalf of 747 children and young people with SEND.

People could answer the survey individually for up to four of their children or young people with SEND.

This is the third consecutive year that the SEND Parent and Carer survey has run. For some of the data, we made comparisons with the last two years of data, to track how results have changed over time. It’s worth noting that some of the questions in the 2021 survey were new this year, meaning there is no previous data to compare with. Feedback on the Short Breaks Prepaid Card was also last collected in 2018.
