SEHRT Portsbridge: support for proposed changes

Please note: Frequent travellers are respondents travelling by any mode of transport at least twice a week

Summary:

•  Pedestrians who frequently travel through Portsbridge roundabout are more in favour of a new pedestrian crossing over Northern Road compared to frequent car or van drivers (55% compared to 46% supporting respectively)
• Only a small proportion of people cycle through Portsbridge roundabout frequently, however cyclists are most supportive of the change to widen paths and introduce new cycle lanes (74% strongly support)
• Frequent bus users are very supportive of giving buses right of way at Portsbridge roundabout (75% strongly support) whilst car or van users are very opposing of this change (43% oppose)
• Frequent bus users are most supportive of having new islands to guide traffic through the roundabout safely (87%) whist car or van drivers are less supportive (58%).

This chart shows respondents level of support for the proposed change of adding a new pedestrian crossing over Northern Road. A majority (55%) of people who frequently travel through the area by foot are supportive of the proposal for safer pedestrian access whilst only 46% of car or van users support it.

This chart shows the support of increasing walking and cycling space, broken down into each cohort. This change is supported by a majority from each type of cohort. 94% of cyclists support or strongly support this, while 52% of car and van users support it.

This chart shows respondents level of support for the proposed change of a new priority bus route. Frequent bus users are very supportive of this change with 84% somewhat supporting or strongly supporting it. However, only 32 bus users responded to the survey. Car and van users are very opposed to this (43% oppose) but many more responded (348 car or van users responded).

This chart shows respondents level of support for the proposed change of adding a new traffic island to guide traffic safely through the roundabout. 87% of frequent bus users and 58% of car and van users support this change.
