- The majority of the children and young people in the sample have needs related to communication and interaction (79%). Almost two thirds have social, emotional or mental health needs (65%) and/or a learning difficulty or disability (58%). The remaining need types were much less commonly selected.
- These findings are extremely similar to the 2020 consultation results, as well as the School Census 2021 data – the top three reasons for support are the same (although in a different order of popularity). It is worth noting that the School Census only asks for SEND primary need and so data is not being compared on a like-for-like basis.
