EHCP and support

• The majority of the children and young people in the sample have an EHCP (68%).
• Only a quarter of the pupils in the School Census 2021 dataset have an EHCP meaning that the survey sample substantially over-represents children and young people with one.
• Respondents whose children or young people do not have an EHCP were then asked whether they know how to access support for their special educational needs; the sample is essentially split down the middle with 49% knowing how to access support and 51% not knowing how to access support for their child or young person.

The following chart shows that 68% of children or young people in the sample have an EHCP which is an over-representation compared to the School Census 2021 data where 25% of children or young people have one.

The following chart shows that of the parents and carers whose children or young people do not have an EHCP, 51% know how to access support for their child or young person’s special educational needs.
