Opinions on the current scheme

• The most frequently mentioned positive aspect of the scheme is improved safety (37%)
• 17% comment on the reduced congestion and amount of traffic, and that dangerous driving and illegal parking has been reduced
• Other positives mentioned are a cleaner and more pleasant environment

“The road(bramble) is used less as a rat run between fawcett rd and talbert rd [sic] and generally feels safer and less noisy traffic wise.”

“Too many cars were turning around when children were crossing. This doesn’t happen now.”

“Less traffic in the road. Parents able to park in the church carpark as they always did. Good to see children walking, encourages talking as they walk.”

• Three respondents think that the School Street does not work in its current form. The reasons given are that parents ignore the restrictions and park anyway and that problems have now moved to surrounding streets instead
• Eight respondents think that the School Street needs changes, six of whom left a comment. The main changes suggested are to make the one-way signage on Talbot Road more obvious, to install a wider barrier across the closed road to prevent parents from manoeuvring round it, and to have better enforcement of the regulations
• Verbally, around 11 people suggested introducing an APN system on Talbot Road to catch those not abiding by the one-way system

“By closing Hayward road, you have moved parking to Bramble, Ventor and Shanklin Roads instead leading to cars being left abandoned on street corners, and creating danger for children.”

“People are still driving the wrong way up Talbot Road, drivers are used to seeing one way arrows on the road (i.e. in small streets you don’t look to the sky for a sign and initially they find the signs confusing as there is an arrow for the bikes) but if you have great big arrows on the road, like in other one way roads, the drivers will see it clearly (it’s expected on a one way street) so would stop them driving the incorrect way into the street and causing arguments between drivers trying to get passed each other throughout the day and night.”

“It would be ideal to have a barrier that covers the entire road. Some cars drive on the wrong side of the road to get past the barriers.”

“1.  better enforcement of one-way system (wardens, traffic cameras) ; 2. better arrangement of Talbot Rd. exits (planter moved to cover more of the road and cycle path moved to the other side towards pavement, to better indicate exit-only for vehicles and prevent entry)”
