School’s location: negative comments

Summary

  • Respondents dislike the negative aspects of the School Streets scheme (23%), stating that the scheme has lead to more congestion, restricted access, and has not had a noticeable effect on the school street
  • Many of the issues raised by respondents are tied to school drop of and pick up times
  • There is a running theme with respondents feeling that these issues make the street more dangerous
  • Respondents for Meon Infant & Junior School are critical of the School Streets scheme (37%), especially parents who are frustrated with the system for making them repeatedly late or inconvenienced

“Impossible to walk when having children in different schools, due to cars being pushed to surrounding areas meaning parking and other roads are busier, caused lateness for pick up on several occasions, almost daily”

“When cars can access the street is extremely crowded – poor driving is common because drivers are stressed about not finding anywhere to park. The street is not designed for this usage and things get very pressured and unpleasant..”

“Once the scheme has finished it has reverted to how it used to be with the volume of street traffic and pollution. This scheme needs to be an enduring commitment from the City Council in making it green to go to school.”

“Nothing has changed the parents just park up and wait in there cars earlier. The staff that man the road closed block can be rude and question you if you are a resident asking to see id with your address on.”
