- Overall, the main travel method for children travelling ‘to school’ is ‘walking’ (74%), with ‘car’ being second (41%)
- ‘Taxi’ and ‘home to school transport’ only accounts for 2% of ‘drop offs’ or ‘pick ups’
- St John’s’ has the lowest proportion of children who ‘walk’ (41%) and the highest proportion who travelled by ‘car’ (59%), but as 22% of respondents for this school live ‘more than 5 miles away’ from the school it is likely that walking is not a feasible option
- Children travelling ‘to school’ show similar results for travelling ‘from school’, with ‘walk’ (66%) and ‘car’ (43%) being the first and second choice for the total sample
- There is a decrease in the response rates for ‘scoot / skate’ within Meon schools when comparing travel ‘to’ and ‘from’ school (from 26% to 5%)
- A smaller decrease also occurs within travel by ‘car’ (‘travel to’ – 34%, ‘travel from’ – 23%), with no significant increase to other travel methods
