Background

A ‘School Street’ is a road outside of a school with a temporary restriction on road traffic at school drop-off and pick-up times. The restriction aims to create a safer, healthier and more pleasant environment for everyone. To promote this the Road Safety team launched the School Streets scheme, which ran for St Jude’s Church of England Primary School and Bramble Infant School in September 2021 (see Wave 1 School Streets and Stomp to School – Wave 1).

The second wave of the scheme was completed, with Meon Infant, Meon Junior School and St John’s Cathedral Catholic Primary School  taking part over June and July 2022.

User feedback regarding the Pompey Monster’s Stomp to School Challenge (downloaded via the Go Jauntly app) has also been gathered. This challenge is a scheme created to encourage children to walk, scoot or cycle to school regularly. It also provided road safety information in a fun and engaging way.
