• Celebratory events and festivals is the most popular category people would like to see in terms of celebrations (72%)
• A project to promote 100 things to do or places to go in Portsmouth is also popular with 62% selecting,
• Over half of respondents selected multi-cultural events and celebrations and a special exhibition celebrating Portsmouth
• ‘Other’ suggestions included things involving the younger generation, greener city events (i.e. traffic free days), and community led events (i.e. local competitions or challenges). Some weren’t interested or thought other things in the city should be prioritised, and others talked about events being affordable or free of charge

Sex

Higher proportions of females than males would like to see all these kinds of celebrations except for a special exhibition celebrating Portsmouth which is more popular with males.

Age

More younger people like celebratory events and festivals, multi-cultural events and street parties. Older people are more likely to choose a special exhibition celebrating Portsmouth.

Children in household

Those with children in the household are keener on multi-cultural events and street parties than those with no children in the household.

Ethnic group

Those from a White background are more interested in the celebration events than those from an ethnic minority except multi-cultural events. This difference is particularly marked for a special exhibition celebrating Portsmouth.

Household income

There are higher levels of interest in most types of celebration amongst more affluent households.
