Sex

Generally, males are more likely to have used, or express interest in using, the port’s travel facilities. Just a fifth of males report not taking or being interested in taking a ferry or cruise from the port, compared to around a third of females (34%).

Ethnic group

A much higher proportion of those from ethnic minority groups have taken a cruise from the port (24% vs 4% from White ethnic groups).

Children in household

Those with children in their household are more likely to have taken a ferry (52%) or cruise (15%) from the port already, and express higher levels of interest in taking a ferry in the future (35%).

Age

Use of ferries from the port increases with age (64+: 60% vs <25: 24%), although interest in taking a ferry is highest amongst those under 45 years (28%-38%).

Those under the age of 25 and over the age of 64 are more likely to have taken a cruise from the port (9%-12%).

Household income

Likelihood to have taken a ferry from the port increases with household income (£60k+:56%), as does interest in taking a cruise, despite those earning £20k-£40k being most likely to have taken a cruise from the port before (12%).

Lack of use or interest in taking ferries and cruises from the port decreases with household income.

Awareness of ownership/ use of profits

Those who are aware that the port is Council owned and/or how its profits are used in the city are more likely to have taken a cruise (9%-12%) or ferry (47%-55%) from the port.
