• Most commonly residents would advise those at risk of losing their home due to eviction to seek support from the Council’s website (52%), whilst a third would recommend an online search, and around a quarter would suggest going to friends or family (26%) or a local charity (25%)
• Of those suggesting a local charity, Advice Portsmouth and HIVE were most commonly mentioned
• Nearly a fifth of residents would not know where to go for support for eviction (19%)

52% of respondents said they would advise someone at risk of losing their home due to eviction to go to the Council’s website for support. 33% said they would advise an online search.26% said they would advise going to friends or family. 25% said they would advise going to a local charity. 19% said they would advise going to a national charity. 4% said they would advise going to Portsmouth City Council directly. 3% said they would advise going somewhere else. 19% said they did not know where to advise.

Sex

Females are more likely to advise seeking support through an online search (+10%), from a national charity (+10%), or from friends or family (+9%), whilst males are more likely to be unsure (+7%).

Ethnic group

Residents from ethnic minority groups are more likely to advise seeking support from the Council’s website (+13%) whilst those from White ethnic groups are more likely to advise an online search (+10%).

Disability

Those with a disability are more likely to suggest seeking support from a local (+13%) or national (+8%) charity, whilst those without a more likely to suggest an online search (+11%).

Age

Younger residents (<45 years) are more likely to suggest an online search (35%-55%) or seeking support from friends or family (29%-37%), whilst older residents (55+ years) are more likely to suggest a national charity (22%-24%).

Those under the age of 25 are most likely to suggest online routes, either through the Council’s website (65%) or a general online search (55%).

Household income

Those earing £20k-£39k are more likely to advise seeking support from the Council’s website (61%) or a local (30%) or national (24%) charity.

Those earning £20k-£59k are more likely to suggest seeking support from friends or family (28%-37%).

Housing status

Local authority renters are more likely to advise seeking support from the Council (30%) or its website (76%), as well as from local charities (46%).

Private renters are more likely to suggest an online search (52%) or seeking support from family or friends (43%).
