Participation levels in cultural activities

• Residents are visiting parks and green spaces most regularly (51% weekly)
• Over half of residents never visit a community centre (54%) however 10% are visiting at least monthly
• Around half of residents are visiting the Hotwalls area (51%), a theatre or other indoor event (47%) or free outdoor events (47%) at least a few times a year

Age

Residents aged over 64 show the least frequent participation in many of the indoor activities, with the exception of libraries and museums

Ethnic group

A fifth of residents from ethnic minority groups visit a theatre or other indoor venue at least monthly, compared to 8% of residents from a white ethnic group

Household income

Generally, residents with a household income of more than £60k participate in indoor activities more frequently than those earning less, with the exception of community centres

Housing status

Fewer property owners would ‘never’ participate in these indoor activities than renters. i.e. 37% of property owners would ‘never’ visit a paid for museum in comparison to 57% of those renting from the local authority or housing association and 51% of private renters
