By respondent type

  • Buses are the most popular mode of public transport amongst all user groups but are used least by visitors
  • Trains are used more by workers and visitors who are possibly more likely to be travelling longer distances
  • Ferries are used least by students and residents but are more commonly used by visitors and workers
  • Taxis are, perhaps understandably, used least by students but are used by almost half of residents and workers

 

By age and sex

  • Buses are more likely to be used by younger and older demographics, and females
  • Trains are used less by those aged 55+ and are the only mode of public transport used slightly more by males (62% male vs. 59% female)
  • Roughly the same proportion of all age groups use taxis but they are more likely to be used by females
  • Ferries are least likely to be used by the younger demographic
  • Voi are more likely to be used by younger demographics and males

 

By ethnicity and disability

  • Buses are less likely to be used by those from non-White ethnic backgrounds
  • Trains are considerably less likely to be used by those with a disability or limiting condition (50% disability vs. 64% no disability)
  • Those from non-White ethnic backgrounds are disproportionately likely to be using taxis
  • Ferries are less likely to be used by those from a non-White ethnic background or those with a disability or limiting condition

 

By postcode

  • Bus usage is highest amongst those living in PO2, PO4 and PO6. Usage is lowest in PO3 (served by fewer bus routes)
  • Train usage is highest amongst those living in PO4 and PO5 and lowest in PO3 and PO2
  • Taxi usage is highest amongst PO1 and PO5 residents and lowest in PO6
  • Ferry usage is highest amongst PO5 residents
  • Voi is used most by PO1 residents (higher availability of Voi services)
