BSIP Short-term improvements: bus services and routes

Summary

• All of the suggested improvements would lead to an increase in bus usage
• Over half of respondents indicate that more comprehensive (59%), reliable (58%), frequent (55%), and better weekend and evening (54%) services would increase their usage of the bus ‘to a great extent‘
• Faster services (47%) and smaller vehicles at quieter times which take you closer to home (41%) would also increase bus usage ‘to a great extent’, although not selected by a majority
• All suggested improvements to bus services and routes encourage a higher proportion of females to increase their use of bus services in Portsmouth compared to males; the highest impact for females, saying their use of buses would increase ‘to a great extent’, are more comprehensive routes (65%) and more reliable services (63%)
• ‘Smaller vehicles at quieter times that take you to closer to home’ would have the biggest impact upon females, 47% say it would increase their use of bus services ‘to a great extent’, compared to males where less than a third selected this option (32%)
