How often do you currently travel by bus in Portsmouth?

Summary:

  • After the pandemic, 39% of respondents are using the bus in Portsmouth at least weekly; at least one in 10 people are using the bus one or two days per week (15%), three or four days per week (12%) and five or six days per week (10%)
  • Females are using the bus in Portsmouth more frequently now than males; 42% of females are using the bus weekly compared to 35% of males
  • Respondents with a disability are travelling more frequently than those with no disability; almost half of respondents with a disability are travelling weekly (47%) compared to 37% of those with no disability
  • More affluent households are considerably more likely to not be travelling by bus currently; 31% of those earning £40,000 – £59,999 and 44% of those earning £60,000 or more ‘never’ travel by bus

This chart shows that after the pandemic, 39% of respondents are using the bus in Portsmouth at least weekly; at least one in 10 people are using the bus one or two days per week (15%), three or four days per week (12%) and five or six days per week (10%)
It also shows that a much smaller proportion of respondents are using the bus daily (3%) and that over a quarter of respondents are using the bus ‘less often’ (27%) and just under a quarter ‘never use the bus (24%).
In terms of sex, the chart shows that females are using the bus in Portsmouth more frequently now than males; 42% of females are using the bus weekly compared to 35% of males (see Figure #) and that males are more likely to ‘never’ be using the bus (+4 percentage points).

This chart shows that respondents with a disability are travelling more frequently than those with no disability; almost half of respondents with a disability are travelling weekly (47%) compared to 37% of those with no disability. Respondents with no disability are more likely to be travelling ‘less often’ (+5 percentage points) or ‘never’ (+7 percentage points).

This chart shows that more affluent households are considerably more likely to not be travelling by bus currently; 31% of those earning £40,000 – £59,999 and 44% of those earning £60,000 or more ‘never’ travel by bus
The chart also shows that households earning £20,000 – £39,999 are more likely to be travelling by bus ‘less often’ post-pandemic (35%) whilst those on the lowest incomes (earning less than £20,000 per year) are using the bus most frequently; almost two thirds of them are travelling by bus at least weekly (63%).
