E-scooter rental trial: Usage and ownership

Summary

• The majority of respondents have never ridden an e-scooter (73%); more respondents in wave two have ridden an e-scooter compared to wave one (27% compared to 13%)
• Respondents aged over 55 are less likely to have ridden an e-scooter than those below the age of 55
• More males than females have ridden an e-scooter (33% compared to 18%), and slightly more males own an e-scooter (5% compared to 2% of females)
• Overall, just 3% of respondents own an e-scooter, which is a slight decline from respondents in wave one (4%)

This chart shows the proportion of respondents who have ridden an e-scooter before, compared to wave one, and then broken down by age and gender. 27% of respondents in wave two of the research have ridden an e-scooter before, compared to 13% of respondents in wave one of the research; 27% of 16-24 year olds have ridden an e-scooter before and 73% have not; 31% of 25-34 have ridden an e-scooter before and 69% have not; 31% of 35-44 year olds have ridden an e-scooter before and 69% have not; 30% of 45-54 year olds have ridden an e-scooter before and 70% have not; 24% of 55-64 year olds have ridden an e-scooter before and 76% have not; 22% of those 65 and over have ridden an e-scooter before and 78% have not; 33% of male respondents have ridden an e-scooter before, compared to 18% of females. 67% of males have not ridden an e-scooter, compared to 82% of females.
