Of those aged 16-24, 35% said something has or would prevent them from using the trial and 65% said nothing has or would prevent them using the trial. Of those aged 25-34, 54% said something has or would prevent them from using the trial and 46% said nothing has or would prevent them using the trial. Of those aged 35-44, 57% said something has or would prevent them from using the trial and 43% said nothing has or would prevent them using the trial.

What reasons have prevented you / would prevent you from using the e-scooter rental trial in the future?

This chart shows what reasons have or would prevent respondents from using the e-scooter trial, broken down by trial users and non-users. 39% of trial users and 67% of non-users said safety concerns have or would prevent them from using the e-scooter rental trial. 19% of trial users and 27% of non-users said helmets not being provided with the e-scooter has or would prevent them from using the e-scooter rental trial.
43% of trial users and 11% of non-users said the cost of hiring the e-scooters has or would prevent them from using the e-scooter rental trial. 9% of trial users and 12% of non-users said limited information about how to use e-scooters has or would prevent them from using the e-scooter rental trial. 50% of trial users and 6% of non-users said no e-scooter parking hubs at the places they would like to start or finish their journey has or would prevent them from using the e-scooter rental trial.

This table shows the themes that emerged from respondents who left ‘Other’ comments. 62% of respondents who selected ‘other’ said that they would be prevented from using rental e-scooters as they are dangerous for both the riders and non-riders. 20% highlighted access issues preventing them using the e-scooters, such as disabilities, personal circumstances and characteristics, and access to a driver’s license. 15% said a lack of regulation and enforcement of these regulations has prevented them from using the trial, 8% said they would rather use an alternative form of transport, 7% said the infrastructure of Portsmouth would prevent them from using the trial, 6% said young people using the e-scooters had prevented them and 11% fell into an ‘other’ category.
