“The first thing an older man said to me when I started to talk to him about the NHS app was ‘I’m not going to use that app. I don’t see why I should have to go online’. We asked him whether he’d ever tried it and eventually managed to persuade him to let us load it on his phone for him. We got his health records added onto the system and showed him how to use it. He finished up going home after the session saying how good it was and that he was going to tell his son all about it and get him to download it as well.”
“We met with a socially isolated lady who had family living abroad. We showed her how to use Facetime on her tablet to help her stay in contact with them more easily. She began to talk to them on a regular basis. Being more socially connected with her family boosted her confidence and self-esteem and that had a knock-on effect on other areas of her life. Her family managed to convince her during their Facetime chats to start going for walks outdoors which she’d never done before, or not for many years. Being more included digitally improved her mental health and led to improvements in other areas of her life.”
