Summary

  • Around three quarters of respondents report attending an appointment in the last three years (74%), whilst 15% have not, and 11% are unsure
  • The likelihood of reported attendance in the last three years decreases with age, with those aged 25-34 most likely to report attendance (83%), compared to just under two thirds of those aged 55-64. Around a third of those aged 65-74 report attending a screening in the last three years; however, this may be because they are no longer eligible due to age or because they are only invited to attend once every five years
  • Some groups are less likely to report attending a screening in the last three years: those with a disability, from ‘Asian or Asian British’ and ‘other’ ethnic groups, smokers, and people who have had vaginal, bladder, kidney or vulval cancer
  • Whilst some groups are more likely to report attending a recent screening: those who have never given birth, people without a weakened immune system and those from Black or Black British ethnic groups
  • Respondents from the LGBTQ+ community are just as likely to report attending a screening as those outside the community
