Super bus stops: desired locations

Summary

  • The most common reason respondents would like super bus stops in particular locations is because it is the stop they use most frequently (46%), followed by it being closest to their house (30%) or because it is a busy/ popular area, such as a central location or somewhere with travel interchanges, like train stations (18%)
  • Other reasons for wanting super bus stops in particular locations include feeling this is where they would be most beneficial, such as creating a hub or connection point, or feeling that they should actually be all over the city or along all bus services

Where would you like to see a super bus stop in Portsmouth?

Respondents made suggestions for super bus stops in a variety of locations across the city and beyond. These suggestions have been summarised into four categories: general/ types of locations, areas within Portsmouth, specific locations within Portsmouth, and some places further afield.

General/ types of locations
  • All over – 9% of respondents would like to see super bus stops across the whole of the city, either at every bus stop or in a well-dispersed variety of locations. Some would also just like to see elements of super bus stops incorporated to every bus stop e.g. shelters
  • Train stations/ public transit points (4%)
    • Stations: Fratton, Portsmouth and Southsea, Cosham
    • Park and Ride
  • Near shops/ shopping areas (4%) – e.g. Southsea shops, Ocean Retail Park/ Burrfields
  • Near hospitals (4%) – e.g. QA, St Mary’s
  • Near schools and universities (1%)

Areas
  • The City Centre was the most popular area for a super bus stop (21% of respondents) – around Commercial Road, the Cascades, and the Civic Offices
  • Central Southsea (12%) – e.g. Palmerston Road, Albert Road
  • Cosham/ Drayton/ Farlington (8%)
  • North End (7%)
  • Southsea seafront (6%) – e.g. South Parade Pier, Clarence Pier
  • Milton (5%) – e.g. Bransbury Park
  • Other areas frequently mentioned: Hilsea, Eastney, Fratton, Copnor, Baffins, Paulsgrove
